Background:
Victor Khosla founded SVP Global in 2001, which has now become one of the major firms in distressed debt and private equity investments. Headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, Mr. Khosla leads a team of 128 employees and has implemented 4 offices in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Prior to SVPGlobal, Mr Khosla had a successful career in distressed investing at Citibank, Merril Lynch, Cerberus, and Moore Capital. At the time of his departure from Merrill Lynch, Mr. Khosla had investment authority for $2 billion in corporate and real estate investments and headed a team of 40 analysts and traders based in New York, Tokyo, London, and Hong Kong.
Distressed debt investing is a high-risk high reward investment. This type of investment strategy is when one invests in securities of firms which have either defaulted, are under bankruptcy protection, or are in financial distress. The idea behind this strategy is to buy these bonds at a significant discount of their face value, in anticipation that the company emerges from bankruptcy which will increase the value of its bonds.
In light of recent events, SVP has raised a $1.6bn "dislocation fund" to take advantage of opportunities brought up by the pandemic. Previously in 2018, SVP had raised $2.5bn for Special Situations Fund IV, of which 70% has been deployed.
Mr. Khosla is a member of the Management Council at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and sits on the board of Pratham USA, one of the largest non-governmental education organizations in India.
