Background:

Sir Paul Marshall co-founded Marshall Wace in 1997 and has since grown the fund into one of the largest alternative investment firms in the world. Marshall Wace’s strategy has been driven by a combination of fundamental investing and systematic strategies. Since the creation of the MW TOPS trading system, Marshall Wace has been at the forefront of the quantitative investing field and has continued to be an innovator in this area. Notable successes in recent years have included the prediction of Wirecard’s demise, as well as the formation of a strategic partnership with KKR, which currently owns more 39% of the fund.

Sir Paul is also one of the country’s most prominent philanthropists and was knighted in Her Majesty’s Birthday Honours’ list in June 2016 for services in this field. Marshall is the current Chairman of Ark Schools, which manages 39 primary and secondary academies across the country. Marshall served as Lead-Non-Executive Director at the UK Department for Education from 2013 to 2016 and co-founded the Marshall Institute for Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship at LSE in 2015.

Prior to founding Marshall Wace, Sir Paul was Head of European Equities at Mercury Asset Management, the fund management arm of S. G. Warburg & Co. Marshall graduated from St. John’s College Oxford with a degree in History and Modern Languages and received an MBA from INSEAD.
